Jobs and Skills Councils (JSCs)

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations has announced the formation of ten new JSCs as part of Stage One of the JSC two-stage grant opportunity. The JSCs are as follows:

• Agribusiness – A new entity, Skills Insight, will be established by Skills Impact
• Arts, Personal Services, Retail, Tourism and Hospitality – a new entity, WorkforceEquipped, will be established by the Australian Retailers Association
• Energy, Gas and Renewables – A new entity, will be established by a consortium of employee and employer organisations including Master Electricians Australia, Electrical Trades Union, and National Electrical and Communications Association
• Finance, Technology and Business – A new entity, will be established by the Digital Skills Organisation
• Manufacturing – A new entity, Manufacturing Industry Skills Alliance, will be established by Innovation and Business Skills Australia
• Mining and Automotive – A new entity, will be established by the Australian Minerals and Energy Skills Alliance
• Transport and Logistics – A new entity, will be established by Australian Industry Standards
• Public Safety and Government – A new entity, will be established by the Public Safety Industry Committee
• Early Educators, Health, and Human Services – A new entity, HumanAbility, will be established by a consortium of employee and employer organisations, led by the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association
• Building, Construction and Property – A new entity will be established by a consortium of employer and employee organisations from the building, construction and property sectors

National Cultural Policy

The Federal Government recently unveiled the new National Cultural Policy for the Creative Arts sector. Highlights from the list of actions unveiled in the report include:

• Work with the arts and culture sector to undertake a scoping study to understand current and emerging workforce challenges and skills needs across the cultural and creative sector and inform the development of industry-driven solutions by the Arts, Personal Services, Retail, Tourism and Hospitality Jobs and Skills Council, to address identified issues.
• Support the ongoing financial sustainability of the seven national performing arts training organisations.
• Establish a Centre for Arts and Entertainment Workplaces, within the newly established Creative Australia, to provide advice on issues of pay, safety and welfare in the arts and entertainment sector, refer matters to the relevant authorities, and develop codes of conduct and resources for the sector.
• Develop information about the flexibility available for artists to be looking for work in the creative arts sector, and to have this recognised as part of their mutual obligation requirements for unemployment payments. This will assist artists and other creative works to work with job providers so that they can continue their creative practice while connecting to paid work.

Inquiry into the Perceptions and Status of Vocational Education and Training

Submissions are open until 1^st March 2023 on the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Employment, Education and Training’s inquiry on the perceptions and status of VET, and Commonwealth supported information on VET available to students.

NSW Training Awards 2023

Be recognised. Applications open now.

The NSW Training Awards are conducted annually by Training Services NSW within the NSW Department of Education to recognise outstanding achievement in the Vocational Education and Training sector.

The Awards honour and reward the achievements of students, trainers/teachers, training organisations, large and small employers. One of the main aims of the program is to discover Vocational Education and Training Ambassadors as recognising Training Provider & Employer Organisations that are kicking goals in the VET space.

 

Public consultation – Qualifications reform

Commonwealth Government are conducting public online consultations on Qualifications Reform on 15^th and 16^th February 2023.

Property Services – New requirements for Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

From 23^rd March 2023, the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirement for Class 1 and 2 agents is four hours training on compulsory topics. The training must be from an approved provider and include an assessment activity.

Training must be delivered face-to-face, in a room or webinar. Property licensees who cannot attend these forums must do at least 10 hours of learning online.

New Supervision Guidelines will require Licensees in Charge to keep a training plan for all agents they supervise.

2023 Regional Crew Development Program

The Screenworks Regional Crew Development Program is underway for another successful year, in partnership with Netflix, with support from the NSW Government, Screen Queensland, and TAFE NSW. Three trainees have been chosen to start their screen industry apprenticeships through a mix of paid on-the-job placements backed up by training at TAFE NSW Lismore for Cert III in Screen and Media.

The program has also been extended to North Queensland. Screenworks is also looking for Production Companies and Heads of Departments from across Australia interested in taking on trainees for work placements in 2023. Placements can be based in Northern NSW, Southeast Queensland, North Queensland or beyond. All trainees will be paid by Screenworks during their placement terms.
