ACFIPS Forums
ACFIPS has a broad coverage of industry sectors under its umbrella. Regular forums are an important part of our communications strategy.
We would like to thank all those from the range of industries under our umbrella who have participated in our regular forums throughout the year.
Our last forum for 2022 is for Waste Management Industry/RTO forum on vocational education in the industry. It will be held Thursday, 15 December from 9:30 to 11:00am.
The key issues to be discussed are:
- Update on VET data and statistics for the Waste Management Industry in NSW
- A conversation about Waste Management qualifications
- Dangerous goods transport & handling courses
- Possible waste industry skill sets or non-accredited training
- Introduction to the Supply Chain Sustainability Schools – Educator Forum for Circular Economy and Waste Management

Women-in-trades program: applications open
The second round of the NSW government’s Connecting Women to Trades program is underway, with grants up to $300,000 available for organisations experiencing skills shortages, and to support more women in non-traditional trades. Half a million dollars from the fund will be prioritised for projects in LGAs affected by floods in 2022.
Applicants 'need to demonstrate partnerships to co-design and deliver projects that lead to training and employment outcomes for women to enter the trades'.

Update of Skills List methodology
A new methodology in the NSW Skills List that is intended to be more closely based on the current labour market data around skills needs in priority applications is being rolled out by the NSW Department of Education in the first quarter of 2024.
Feedback on the discussion paper released in September is currently under review.

Summer Skills program
With the conclusion of this year’s HSC, the NSW government is offering over 4,000 fee-free courses available to school leavers under the Summer Skills program.
The program is open to people aged 16-24 who have left school and is offered at TAFEs and private training providers.
Courses in sectors including 'early childhood education, care sectors, trades, hospitality, agriculture, construction, business, fitness and digital literacy' are available.

Smart and Skilled applications closing date
Applications for Smart and Skilled contracts and allocations in the 2023-24 financial year are closing on Friday, 2 December.
All existing and prospective Smart and Skilled providers need to apply.

Smart and Skilled November Update
The November update for Smart and Skilled has been released, including details on the NSW Skills List Review methodology, updates on JobTrainer/Skilling for Recovery, low performing qualifications on the NSW Skills List and the Skilling for Recovery Redeployment and Youth and Skilling for Recovery Construction programs’ timeframes/priorities.
