TAE. Training Package. Case for endorsement

The TAE Training Package final Case for Endorsement has been released for public comment.

In our role as an Industry Training Advisory Body for NSW Training Services, ACFIPS has been asked to provide some comments. ACFIPS has supported the development process and believes the latest iteration and changes support a better, more flexible vocational outcome for new VET trainers.

Smart and Skilled Update

The Smart and Skilled application process opens on 1 November, 2022, determining which RTOs are suitable for a Smart and Skilled contracts and allocations for the 2023-24 financial year.

All current Smart and Skilled providers that are not High Performing Providers will need to be successful in the application process in order to be issued a Smart and Skilled contract for 2023-24 onwards.

As part of the application process, RTOs will be required to supply the programs, regions, and qualifications they wish to deliver and the number of students they expect to commence in 2023,24.

Training Services NSW aims to advise RTOs of the outcome of the Smart and Skilled application process and awarding of contracts in April 2023.

Woman in Trades – have your say

Only 2% of qualified workers in key trade industries are women.

Career decisions can be influenced by key people around us. Would you suggest a trade job to a woman you know? We want to know your thoughts.

Online Mathematics in Trades Implementation Workshop

The Mathematics in Trades Pathway is an entirely practical maths course that will help students gain an apprenticeship.

The workshop is designed to help you introduce it to your school.

John Meng – the developer of MITP – will go through the development and implementation process, explain the recommended delivery and assessment strategies, and will share with participants the ongoing professional support that is available.

Greg Cheetham will share with participants the problems he encountered with first-year apprentices with little to no maths.

Places in the workshop are strictly limited. The workshop is free. 9:30 – 11:30am, Wednesday, 26 October.

Free Workshops: Supervising Your Apprentice or Trainee

Free workshops for employers and supervisors of apprentices or trainees in the workplace are being held across regional and metro NSW throughout October and November.

Help your apprentice or trainee complete their training by learning how to:

  • Effectively supervise and ‘coach’ apprentices and trainees
  • Understand the importance of effective communication in the workplace
  • Understand the relationship with the training provider – arranging training that works for you and your business
  • Address workplace bullying and harassment issues

Handbook for supervising apprentices

Training NSW has released a guide on the key issues involved in the supervision of apprentices and trainees.

The ‘Supervising your Apprentice Workbook’ covers a host of important issues including workplace induction, duty of care and safety, bullying and harassment, mental health, learning styles, understanding Aboriginal learners, and assessment.
